Drepung Monastery
Drepung Monastery, founded in 1416 by Jamyang Choje, a disciple of Tsongkhapa, lies on the outskirts of Lhasa in Tibet. It became the largest monastery of the Gelug school and once housed several thousand monks. The Dalai Lamas lived there, in its Ganden Phodrang residence, before the Fifth Dalai Lama moved to the Potala, and the residence gave its name to the Tibetan government.
