Dungan Revolt
The Dungan Revolt was a major uprising of Muslim Hui and other peoples in north-western China in the 1860s and 1870s. It devastated Shaanxi and Gansu and led to the temporary loss of Xinjiang before Qing forces under Zuo Zongtang reconquered the region. It was one of several mid-nineteenth-century rebellions that strained the Qing Empire.
