Eanna

Also known as E-anna

The Eanna, 'House of Heaven', was the great temple precinct of the goddess Inanna in the Sumerian city of Uruk. Its monumental buildings of the 4th millennium BCE, decorated with cone mosaics, are among the earliest in Mesopotamia, and they yielded the oldest proto-cuneiform tablets and the Warka Vase. Kings rebuilt it for some three thousand years, and the Epic of Gilgamesh praises Uruk's walls and Eanna.
