Mask of Warka

c. 3100 BCE · Also known as Lady of Uruk, Lady of Warka

The Mask of Warka, also called the Lady of Uruk, is a marble sculpture of a female face from Uruk, dating from about 3100 BCE and found in 1939. Probably part of a composite cult statue with inlaid eyes and eyebrows, it is one of the earliest naturalistic representations of the human face; stolen from the Iraq Museum in 2003, it was recovered later that year.
