Ecgfrith of Northumbria
Ecgfrith was king of Northumbria from 670 to 685, the son of Oswiu. He extended Northumbrian rule over the southern Picts and founded a bishopric at Abercorn on the Forth, but lost Lindsey to Æthelred of Mercia after the Battle of the Trent in 679. In 685 he invaded Pictland and was defeated and killed by Bridei son of Beli at Dun Nechtain, ending Northumbrian dominance north of the Forth.
