Edward Bruce

c. 1280–1318 · 14th century

Edward Bruce was a younger brother of Robert the Bruce, King of Scots. In 1315 he invaded Ireland with a Scottish army, seeking to open a second front against England, and was proclaimed High King of Ireland by his Irish allies in 1316. His campaign devastated much of the country during a famine, and he was killed at the Battle of Faughart in 1318.
