Emperor Aizong of Jin

1198–1234 · 13th century · Also known as Wanyan Shouxu

Emperor Aizong was the ninth emperor of the Jurchen Jin dynasty, ruling from 1224 to 1234. Facing the Mongols, he ended the wars with Western Xia and the Song, but in 1232 the Mongols overran Henan and besieged Kaifeng. He fled to Caizhou, where a Mongol and Southern Song siege trapped him; he abdicated and killed himself as the city fell in 1234.
