Huining Prefecture

Also known as Shangjing (Jin)

Huining Prefecture, later called Shangjing, the Upper Capital, was the first capital of the Jurchen Jin dynasty, near modern Harbin in Heilongjiang, China. Wanyan Aguda ruled from there after proclaiming the dynasty in 1115. Emperor Wanyan Liang moved the capital south to Zhongdu in 1153 and had the old palaces destroyed; earthen walls survive.
