Emperor Chōkei
Emperor Chōkei (1343–1394) was the third emperor of the Southern Court of Japan, reigning from 1368 to 1383 after his father Go-Murakami. A firm opponent of compromise with the Ashikaga shogunate, he was officially recognised as a legitimate emperor only in 1926, after historians established that he had reigned. He abdicated in favour of his brother Go-Kameyama.
