Emperor Go-Kōgon

1338–1374 · 14th century

Emperor Go-Kōgon was the fourth emperor of the Northern Court of Japan, reigning from 1352 to 1371. A son of Emperor Kōgon, he was enthroned by the Ashikaga after Southern forces carried off the senior members of the Northern imperial family, and he was crowned without the imperial regalia. He abdicated in favour of his son Go-En'yū and continued to direct the court as retired emperor until his death.
