Emperor Kōmyō
Emperor Kōmyō was the second emperor of the Northern Court of Japan, reigning from 1336 to 1348. A member of the Jimyōin line, he was placed on the throne in Kyoto by Ashikaga Takauji after Emperor Go-Daigo broke with the Ashikaga and fled to Yoshino, opening the period of the Northern and Southern Courts. Carried off by Southern forces in 1352, he later became a Buddhist monk.
