Kannō disturbance

1350–1352 · 14th century · Also known as Kannō incident

The Kannō disturbance was a conflict of 1350 to 1352 within the Ashikaga shogunate of Japan, between the shogun Ashikaga Takauji and his brother Tadayoshi, who for a time allied with the Southern Court. Southern forces exploited the split to seize Kyoto in 1352 and carry off the retired Northern emperors Kōgon and Kōmyō and the deposed Sukō. Tadayoshi died in 1352, probably poisoned.
