Erzincan
Erzincan is a city in eastern Turkey on the upper Euphrates, in a fertile plain surrounded by mountains. In the Middle Ages it was the seat of the Mengujekid emirs and later of the Eretnids and local emirs before passing to the Ottomans. It lies on a major fault line and has been destroyed by earthquakes, notably in 1939, when more than 30,000 people died.
