Sivas
Sivas is a city in central Anatolia, Turkey, on the upper Kızılırmak. As ancient Sebasteia it was a Roman and Byzantine city; after 1071 it became a Danishmendid capital and then passed to the Seljuks of Rum, who built celebrated madrasas there. Timur sacked it in 1400, and in 1919 it hosted the Sivas Congress of the Turkish national movement.
