Sivasagar

Also known as Sibsagar

Sivasagar, formerly Sibsagar, is a town in Upper Assam, India, and the headquarters of Sivasagar district. It grew around the great tank dug in the 1730s under Ahom royal patronage, and lies close to the former Ahom capitals of Garhgaon and Rangpur. Its monuments, including the Sivadol, the Rang Ghar and the Talatal Ghar, make it the main centre of Ahom heritage.
