Upper Assam
Upper Assam is the eastern part of the Brahmaputra valley in the Indian state of Assam, including the districts of Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat. It was the heartland of the Ahom kingdom, whose capitals stood there, and in the nineteenth century it became the centre of Assam's tea industry and of India's first oil field at Digboi.
