Burhagohain
The Burhagohain was the senior of the great ministers of the Ahom kingdom of Assam, an office traditionally dated to the reign of the founder Sukaphaa in the 13th century. Held by members of particular hereditary Ahom clans, it acted as chief counsellor of the king and governed its own territories. In the late 18th century the Burhagohain Purnananda effectively ran the kingdom.
