Kızılırmak
The Kızılırmak, the ancient Halys, is the longest river wholly within Turkey, flowing about 1,350 km in a wide arc across central Anatolia to the Black Sea near Bafra. In antiquity it marked the frontier between Lydia and Media, agreed after the battle of the eclipse in 585 BCE, and Croesus crossed it to attack Persia. Its Turkish name means 'red river', after the colour of its silt.
