Alanya
Alanya is a port city on the Mediterranean coast of southern Turkey. The Byzantine town of Kalonoros was taken in 1221 by the Seljuk sultan Kayqubad I, who renamed it Alaiye and made it a winter residence and naval base, building its citadel walls, the Red Tower and a shipyard. It later passed to local beyliks and the Mamluks before the Ottomans took it in 1471.
