Estates of Burgundy
The Estates of Burgundy were the assembly of clergy, nobles and towns of the Duchy of Burgundy, meeting from the fourteenth century to vote taxes for the duke and later for the French king. After the duchy was annexed by Louis XI in 1477, they kept Burgundy's status as a pays d'états, raising its own taxes, until the French Revolution.
