Estates of Hainaut
The Estates of Hainaut were the representative assembly of the County of Hainaut, made up of the clergy, the nobility and the towns. From the fourteenth century they met at Mons to vote the taxes and subsidies requested by the count and defended the county's charters and customary law. They continued under the Burgundian and Habsburg rulers until the French annexation of 1795.
