Faizabad

Faizabad is a city in Uttar Pradesh, India, on the Ghaghara river beside Ayodhya. It grew in the 1730s as the residence of the early nawabs of Awadh, Saadat Ali Khan and Safdar Jang, and was the capital of Awadh until Asaf-ud-Daula moved his court to Lucknow in 1775. In 2018 its district was renamed Ayodhya, and the city was joined to the Ayodhya municipal corporation.
