Fauj-i-Ain

The Fauj-i-Ain was the regular standing army of the Sikh Empire, created by Ranjit Singh. Trained along European lines, partly by European officers, it combined disciplined infantry, artillery and cavalry and was the main engine of Sikh expansion. It later became a powerful political force after Ranjit Singh's death.
