Federal Pact

1831 · 19th century

The Federal Pact was an alliance signed in January 1831 by the Argentine provinces of Buenos Aires, Santa Fe and Entre Ríos against the Unitarian League of General José María Paz. After Paz was captured and the Unitarians defeated, the other provinces joined it. The pact became the basis of the Argentine Confederation, with Buenos Aires managing foreign relations, and is named in the 1853 constitution.
