Finschhafen is a town on the Huon Peninsula in Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea. Founded in 1885 by the German New Guinea Company and named after the explorer Otto Finsch, it was the first capital of German New Guinea until disease forced the administration to move in 1891. In the Second World War it was the scene of heavy fighting in 1943.
