Albert Hahl

1868–1945 · 20th century

Albert Hahl was a German colonial administrator, governor of German New Guinea from 1902 to 1914. He extended administration through appointed village headmen, the luluai, and a head tax that pushed men into plantation labour, and he moved the capital to Rabaul in 1910. He had earlier served as vice-governor in the Caroline Islands.
