Bismarck Archipelago
The Bismarck Archipelago is a group of islands off north-eastern New Guinea, including New Britain, New Ireland and the Admiralty Islands. Germany annexed it in 1884 as part of German New Guinea, naming it after Otto von Bismarck. Australia occupied it in 1914 and governed it under a League of Nations mandate as part of the Territory of New Guinea, with its capital at Rabaul.
