Albert Frederick, Duke of Prussia

1553–1618 · 16th century

Albert Frederick (1553–1618) was Duke of Prussia from 1568, the son and successor of Albert, the first duke. Mentally ill from his youth, he was unable to rule, and his Hohenzollern relatives of Brandenburg-Ansbach and then the electors of Brandenburg governed as regents. On his death the duchy passed to his son-in-law, Elector John Sigismund, creating Brandenburg-Prussia.
