Angaur
Angaur is a small island in the south of Palau in the western Pacific. Under German rule phosphate was mined there from 1909, a business continued by the Japanese after they seized the islands in 1914. In 1944 American forces captured it in a hard-fought battle during the campaign for the Palau Islands.
