Flower Wars
The Flower Wars were ritualised conflicts fought by the Aztec Empire with neighbouring states such as Tlaxcala. Their purpose is thought to have included training warriors and capturing prisoners for sacrifice rather than conquering territory. The hostility they created helped make Tlaxcala a key ally of the Spanish.
