Frankokratia

1204– · 13th century · Also known as Latinokratia

Frankokratia ('rule of the Franks') is the period of Western, chiefly French and Italian, rule in Greek lands after the Fourth Crusade of 1204. It covered the Principality of Achaea, the Duchy of Athens, Venetian colonies and other Latin states; most were lost to the Byzantines and Ottomans by the fifteenth century, though Venice held some islands much longer.
