Frankopan family

The Frankopans were a Croatian noble family, originally counts of the island of Krk, who from the 12th century held large estates in western Croatia and along the coast. Among the most powerful magnates of medieval Croatia, they produced bans, built castles and churches and supported Glagolitic literacy. The family ended in 1671 when Fran Krsto Frankopan was executed after the Magnate conspiracy.
