Magnates
Magnates were the great noble landowners of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, whose vast estates gave them enormous wealth and influence. Many maintained private armies and pursued their own political and military interests. Their power often overshadowed that of the king and the Sejm, contributing to the Commonwealth's political weakness.
