Freiberg
Freiberg is a town in Saxony, Germany, at the foot of the Ore Mountains. Silver was discovered there around 1168, setting off a mining rush that made the margraves of Meissen rich and the town one of the largest in the region. Its mining academy, the Bergakademie, founded in 1765, is the oldest university of mining and metallurgy in the world.
