Ore Mountains
The Ore Mountains, in German Erzgebirge and in Czech Krušné hory, are a mountain range along the border between Saxony and Bohemia. Silver strikes from the 12th century at Freiberg and from the 1470s at Schneeberg, Annaberg and Marienberg made Saxony one of the richest states in the Empire, and silver from Joachimsthal on the Bohemian side gave its name to the thaler. The mining landscape is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
