Fuero General de Navarra

13th century · 13th century · Also known as General Fuero of Navarre

The Fuero General de Navarra is the code of laws of the medieval Kingdom of Navarre, first compiled in the thirteenth century, around 1238 under Theobald I. It set out the customs of the kingdom and the mutual obligations of king and subjects, requiring each new king to swear to uphold the laws before receiving the oath of his subjects. It remained the basis of Navarrese law for centuries.
