Fueros de Aragón

1247 · 13th century · Also known as Code of Huesca, Compilation of Huesca

The Fueros de Aragón are the compilation of the customary laws of the Kingdom of Aragon made at the Cortes of Huesca in 1247 under James I, prepared by Bishop Vidal de Canellas of Huesca. Replacing a variety of local laws, they became the general law of the kingdom, extended by later legislation of the Cortes. They remained in force until the Nueva Planta decrees of 1707, and Aragonese civil law still derives from them.
