Nueva Planta decrees

1707–1716 · 18th century

The Nueva Planta decrees were a series of laws issued by Philip V of Spain between 1707 and 1716, during and after the War of the Spanish Succession. Punishing the territories of the Crown of Aragon that had backed the Habsburg claimant, they abolished the separate laws, parliaments and institutions of Aragon, Valencia, Majorca and Catalonia and imposed the government of Castile, creating a more unified Bourbon Spain.
