Fujiwara no Hidehira
Fujiwara no Hidehira was the third lord of the Northern Fujiwara, ruling Mutsu and Dewa from Hiraizumi at the height of the family's wealth. The court made him commander of the northern frontier (chinjufu-shōgun) in 1170. He sheltered the young Minamoto no Yoshitsune and took him in again in 1187 as a fugitive from his brother Yoritomo, shortly before Hidehira's own death.
