Gar clan
The Gar were a powerful aristocratic clan of imperial Tibet. Gar Tongtsen, chief minister of Songtsen Gampo, negotiated the marriage with the Tang princess Wencheng, and he and his sons governed the empire after Songtsen Gampo's death, conquering the Tuyuhun and fighting the Tang. In 698 the emperor Tridu Songtsen destroyed their power, and leading members of the clan were killed or fled to China.
