Garoua

Garoua is a city in northern Cameroon on the Benue River and the capital of the country's North Region. It was founded by Fulani settlers in the 19th century and became one of the lamidates of the Adamawa Emirate. Occupied by the Germans in 1901, it grew as a river port linking northern Cameroon with the Niger and the sea.
