Giambattista Bodoni

1740–1813 · 18th century

Giambattista Bodoni was an Italian printer and type designer from Saluzzo who directed the ducal printing house in Parma from 1768. His elegant typefaces, with strong contrast between thick and thin strokes, defined the modern or Didone style, and his Manuale tipografico was published after his death in 1818. Typefaces named after him are still widely used.
