Gildo
Gildo was a Berber prince, son of Nubel and brother of Firmus, who served Rome as military commander in Africa from 386. In 397 he transferred his allegiance from the western to the eastern emperor and withheld the grain fleet from Rome, starting the Gildonic revolt. He was defeated in 398 by an army led by his own brother Mascezel and died soon afterwards.
