Giulia da Varano

1523–1547 · 16th century

Giulia da Varano was Duchess of Camerino, the heiress of Duke Giovanni Maria da Varano. In 1534 she married Guidobaldo II della Rovere, heir to the Duchy of Urbino, a match that threatened to unite the two states. Pope Paul III refused to accept it, seized Camerino in 1539 and gave it to his grandson Ottavio Farnese, before it returned to direct papal rule in 1545.
