The Gomti is a tributary of the Ganges in Uttar Pradesh, India, rising near Pilibhit and flowing about 900 km south-east past Lucknow and Jaunpur before joining the Ganges below Varanasi. In ancient times it bounded the kingdom of Kosala, and it is named in the Rigveda and later Hindu texts as a sacred river.
