Gooty

Gooty is a town in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, India, dominated by a hill fortress on a granite outcrop. The fort was one of the chain of strongholds that defended the Vijayanagara Empire, and it was later held by the Maratha chief Murari Rao and then by Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan of Mysore, before coming under British control around 1800.
