Gran Chaco
The Gran Chaco is a vast, hot, semi-arid lowland plain in central South America shared by Paraguay, Bolivia, Argentina and a small part of Brazil. Covered with dry forest, scrub and seasonal wetlands, it was home to indigenous peoples who long resisted colonial rule. Rivalry over its northern part led to the Chaco War between Bolivia and Paraguay in 1932–1935.
