State
Greater Hesse
Greater Hesse was a state created in September 1945 in the American zone of occupied Germany. It combined the parts of the People's State of Hesse east of the Rhine with most of the former Prussian province of Hesse-Nassau. After its constitution was approved by referendum in December 1946 it was renamed Hesse, now one of the states of the Federal Republic of Germany.
