Grote Brief

1187 · 12th century · Also known as Gros Brief

The Grote Brief ('Great Account') is the general account of the revenues of the counts of Flanders for the year 1187, drawn up by the count's central financial officials. It lists the income in money and kind from the comital domains across the county and is one of the earliest surviving princely financial accounts in western Europe, showing how advanced the administration of twelfth-century Flanders was.
