1761 · 18th century · Also known as Museo Etrusco Guarnacci

The Guarnacci Museum in Volterra, Tuscany, is one of the oldest public museums in Europe, founded in 1761 when the priest and scholar Mario Guarnacci gave his collection of antiquities to the city. It holds some 600 Etruscan alabaster and tufa cinerary urns, as well as the elongated bronze figure known as the Ombra della Sera ('Shadow of the Evening').
